Thank god he thought again about retiring from making films. Steven Soderbergh is back with the brilliantly raucous and funny Logan Lucky. He’s made so many fantastic films and always with a level of social commentary, layers to peel back from your initial interpretation of uhis w movies. It was a real thrill to get time with Steven to take a step into his world and discuss music. I hope you enjoy.
American Made is his new film which sees him team up, once again with Tom Cruise. I think they bring out the best in each other and I might have told him that during this interview. Doug Liman has been responsible for so many moments in my film watching history fro Swingers to Go, Bourne to more recently The Wall, he’s unpredictable and I think it’s fair to say a non-conformist. I see this as a snap shot into world, I hope there can be more.
He is part of the reason I make this podcast and I am eternally grateful to Clint for his time and honesty when talking through just some of his wonderful work. I very much hope that this is just the first chapter that we get to do over the coming years. I know that I felt like we only scratched the surface. I hope you enjoy listening.
It’s still very early days in the career of David Lowery but what he has done with his new film, “A Ghost Story,’ is to make one of my films of the year. A touching and powerful look at human existence and how that transcends time and emotions and relationships. And that’s not even the half of it. The score to this film is divine and I had a blast chatting to him about this and his other works.

I remember watching Animal Kingdom and being really impressed with everything about the film. David Michod was someone I wanted to see and hear more from. Then came, ‘The Rover,’ a dystopian tale of survival with fantastic performances from Guy Pearce and Robert Pattinson and perfect scoring from Antony Partos. When I heard David had teamed up with Nick Cave and Warren Ellis to work on his new film, ‘War Machine,’ I immediately started hyper ventilating. Thankfully that subdued by the time I got to sit down with David.
Look up the word Geezer and you more than likely find Guy Ritchie under it’s definition. I find him utterly tantalising and fascinating and very very funny. It was a lot of fun to catch up with him and talk about King Arthur Legend Of The Sword and working with Daniel Pemberton again.
John Madden is a hugely successful film maker, his 1999 film Shakespeare in Love won 7 Oscars. One of those was for best Original Music for Stephen Warbeck. And Stephen is just one of a number of fantastic composers that John has worked with over the years. A relationship he feels it utterly central to the film making process.
When you list the films that Michael has worked on over the years, not only is it hugely impressive but vastly diverse. A gentle and charming man to spend with who talked with such warmth and enthusiasm about his work. As we hit our 40th Episode of Soundtracking, it’s an honour to share it with such a talented man.
